Although
Imbolc (also
known as Imbolg, Oimelc,
Candlemas, and
Brigid)
is considered one of the
greater Sabbats, it is
probably one of the
least understood.
Imbolc (February
2) is the time when we
recognize
that, although snow may
still cover the ground,
the seeds have begun
to turn within the
earth. The earth is
slowly, quietly
preparing for
Spring. It gives us hope
and helps us endure the
rest of Winter. By
Imbolc you will
definitely notice a
slight lengthening of
days, if you
have not already done
so.
Imbolc honors the
Celtic goddess Brigid,
(pronounced Breed),
triple goddess of
smithcraft,
poetry, and healing. It
is also a good time for
blessing one's ritual
tools and rededicating
oneself to the God and
Goddess and to one's
spiritual path.
In this ritual, we will
take ourselves back to
our roots, back "home"
in order to prepare for
the sparking of the
seeds of our desires and
dreams.
A
sort of cleansing before
we start again.
